Beneath the surface of Cappadocia lies an astonishing network of underground cities. Carved many levels deep, Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı once sheltered thousands of people, complete with kitchens, wineries, stables, chapels and huge circular stone doors that could seal off entire tunnels.
